Secobra UK marks Belter’s first major on-farm showcase at Cereals 2026, bringing supply chain focus to the fore

Secobra varieties recognised across the 2026 UK Spring Barley Recommended List

Secobra UK will use Cereals 2026 to showcase Belter, bringing the malting barley supply chain together through a combination of on-stand activity and industry discussion.

At a time when growers, merchants and end users are operating under increasing pressure, Secobra’s presence is positioned not just around a new variety, but around how the industry responds to volatility across the full supply chain.

Belter enters the market with strong credentials, AHDB Recommended  and securing full MBC approval for brewing. It combines very high treated and untreated yields with solid agronomic performance, offering a reliable option for growers while meeting the quality and consistency requirements of maltsters, brewers and distillers.

The variety will be showcased on the Secobra stand within the Cereals trial plots, giving visitors the opportunity to see its performance in UK conditions and discuss its commercial fit directly with the team.

Alongside the technical focus, Secobra are challenging guests to see if they ‘Can score a Belter?’. Former Premier League goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will be in goal on Wednesday, inviting visitors to step up and take their shot.

Beyond the stand, Secobra is also leading a panel session at the Farmers Weekly stage titled “Resilience in a Volatile World: Building a Stable Malting Barley Supply Chain”, taking place on Wednesday 10 June from 3–4pm.

The session will bring together perspectives from across the supply chain, including breeding, agronomy, farming and malting, to explore where volatility is being felt most and what practical steps can be taken to strengthen resilience from field through to end market.

Speakers include Paul Bury (Secobra Research), John Miles (Agrii), Annabel Hamilton (farmer and Farmers Weekly columnist), and Dr David Griggs (Crisp Malt), as well as Senior Brewer at Hawkstone, Donncha Burke.

Together, the ‘Can you Score a Belter’ feature, variety plots and panel session reflect Secobra’s broader approach, connecting the supply chain while supporting growers and end users with practical, performance-led solutions.

Secobra UK will be located at Stand 1050
